Books (and other intellectual stuff)

Blog Name :

Brain Pickings

About the blog

They say “Go big or go home“, as I’m not going to make “it” as big as that of Maria Popova , I’m staying at home.

However, it doesn’t deter me from peeking at Brain Pickings now and then and educate myself about fascinating tidbits regarding- literature, authors, philosophy..(more than my brain can digest).

This blog is your one-stop solution for:

“An inventory of cross-disciplinary interestingness, spanning art, science, design, history, philosophy, and more.” (source: Brain Pickings)

Why should you read?

To shoot up your IQ/EQ actually in bite-sized daily doses. And those mesmerizing illustrations are cherries on top.

About the blog

This is a brain-child of Lalita Iyer– journalist, writer, teacher- describing her  journey of maneuvering motherhood and life’s other curveballs.

She makes motherhood sounds so fun and arduous and never shies away showing the other side of ‘yummy mommy‘ hood we are force-fed by the market.

Why should you read?

Whether you are a mommy or the idea of children doesn’t entice you much (like yours truly)- you’ll surely going to enjoy the valid points she raises on everything.

About the blog

I’m tech-jinxed. I started learning to code last year, then ran out of steam and now getting my arse back on track.

And Quincy Larson’s freeCodeCamp blog is my go-to source of inspiration, knowledge, and comfort.

Why should you read?

In India, we have the notion that once you’re in a profession, whether you like it or not, you need to drag yourself through this course whole life.

This blog is all about second chances.

Mark Manson

About the blog

Did you fall for the fad of “The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F**k “? Well, I did ( I mean I half-read the book and totally loved it).

But discovered later- it was not a fad but some real, kickass life-improvement stuff that this dude is spouting off in his personal blog as well.

Why should you read?

a) No-nonsense

b) No BS about “I’d make you a millionaire in 7 days” promise

c) Space-out (sometimes too long) between articles

Veg Recipes of India

About the blog

I love my chicken, fish, and egg. But whenever I’m in need to cook something other than instant noodles and boiled eggs, this is my go-to destination.

Why should you read?

a) You love your meat but polish off a plate of palak paneer as well

b) You want cook-able recipes that can be done in shortest time-frame possible. Here, you’ll find them aplenty

c) You are visual-learner and need lots of hand-holding while going through a manual.

And blogger Dassana Amit does just that.

There are some wonderful travel blogs around the world I’m hooked to. But when it comes to gaining knowledge in international travelling, I focus on Indian bloggers.

Reason? It is tough to travel around the world with an Indian passport.

Here is one blog I love-

Blog Name:

The Shooting Star

About the blog

Shivya Nath is a rockstar Indian travel blogger and a beacon of hope for many like us ( Indian women who love/wish to travel solo).

Why should you read?

a) Her lovely, no holds barred write-ups

b) Promoting sustainable tourism and

d)  Heavy dosage of wanderlust per post.

You’re right. And for me, blogging is all about supporting each other. But please don’t call me “Ma’am” :P. “Jheelam” would do. 🙂

Jheelam, this is very good list of wonderful blogs, and there are so many more and we have so much to read and learn from these lovely bloggers and the way they have crafted the space and leveraging the bounty of expression, conversation and collaboration. Brain Picking is the one I love it…

Brain-Picking is my favorite as well. If you’re into more brain-teasing stuff, would recommend you to check out “Medium”- the blogging platform. That one seriously dishes out spectacular posts on science, humanities and everything under the sun.
Thank you for dropping by. 🙂

Thanks so much Jheelam for the suggestion of “Medium”, I was just glancing through and it seems a great repository. Lovely topics and lot of research work makes the thoughts and analyse both powerful and profound. Stuff of my interest…

      • Jheelam says:

Exactly. There are lots of researchers, professors, CEOs (in-short “brainy” people :D) are there, and they make “reading” more interesting.
Hope you’ve a great time perusing through the articles on it.
